South Boston Speedway officials have released the track’s 2014 season schedule, a 17-event schedule that includes four touring series events.

The track will open the 2014 season on Saturday, March 15 with a four-race event highlighted by twin 100-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division. It will conclude its season on Sept. 13 with a special event headlined by a 150-lap race for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour and twin 75-lap races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division.

South Boston Speedway’s first two races of the season on March 15 and March 22, will be Saturday afternoon events.

“The 2014 season schedule is very similar to that of this past season,” said South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice.
“At this point, the schedule is still a work in progress. There is a possibility we may add some races for other divisions on some of our established race dates as we go forward. We feel this is a good schedule, a schedule that will offer fans a good variety of racing.”
South Boston Speedway’s 2014 season schedule includes four major touring series events. The track will host two races for the touring NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, one on April 5 and the other on Sept. 13. Two races for the PASS South Super Late Model Series are also on the schedule, the first on June 7 and the other on Aug. 16.

“We are excited about having an additional race for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour next season,” Rice said.

“The Modifieds are the fastest and most powerful cars in NASCAR racing and the series has had exciting races here the past two years. We are also very happy to have the PASS South Super Late Models returning for two races next season. The drivers and teams in the PASS series have always put on a great show at South Boston Speedway.”

The four touring series events are among the track’s six special events for next season. Two special events are scheduled around the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division, the first being the season-opening twin 100-lap race event and the other being the annual 200-lap event on Thursday night, July 3 that highlights the track’s annual pre-Fourth of July racing extravaganza. A 100-lap Limited Sportsman race, a 50-lap Pure Stock Division race, and a gala Fourth of July fireworks display will also be held July 3.

Another highlight of the 2014 season will be the debut of the Hornets Division on Saturday, March 22. Seven races are on tap for the Hornets Division, an entry-level racing division featuring stock four-cylinder cars.

In something of a new twist next season, South Boston Speedway will crown its champions in the Limited Sportsman, Pure Stock and Hornets divisions on August 30, which is the final night of racing for those divisions.

The track’s NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division champion will be crowned on Sept. 13, the final night of racing for the division.
