Numidia Dragway dominated the Team Championship this weekend taking the trophy home to Numidia, Pa., for the NHRA Northeast Division Summit Racing Series Finals at U.S. 13 Dragway in Delmar, Del. Numidia racers racked up 90 points during eliminations for the championship.
Leading the individual winners was Jimmy Harrison Sr., Putnam Valley, N.Y., in his 98 dragster who won over Alphonse Dimino of Bethlehem, Pa., with a 7.770 second lap at 171.69 mph while a pair of New Jersey racers faced off in the Heavy class with James Young coming out on top in his 85 Cutlass. Young, Parsippany, N.J., ran 10.551 at 124.49 for the win against Steven Vancraeynest, Bloomingdale, N.J.
The 62 Impala of Tom Harhart, Elysburg, Pa., took the honors in Street over John Briese Sr., Galloway, N.J., and Michael Tremblay, Dorchester, N.J., took the 2-wheeled Bike class on his GSXR 1000 covering the quarter mile in 9.587 seconds at 140.99 mph to hold off Ken George, Landing, N.J., with a quicker 8.666, 144.48
Kalvin Kline, Smithburg, Md., outran Dana Loffredo, Brick, N.J., for bragging rights in the High School class going 12.411, 95.85 in a Dodge D100.
Division event winners in Super Pro, Heavy, Street, and Bike will advance to the Summit Racing Series National Championship in November at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., where they will face off with the winners from the other NHRA Divisions for a purse of over $100,000.
Also in competition this weekend was the divisions Race of Champions pitting the top points earners from each track in head to head competition. In the end, Jack Grater out of Perkiomenville, Pa., beat Vince Musolion, Syracuse, N.Y., in Super Pro and Kurt Holland, Whitehall, Pa., beat follow Pennsylvania racer Dahrl Clark, Evertt, Pa., with his 79 Camaro in Heavy. Joining them in the Race of Champions winners circle was Billy Kirpens, Jr., Pittsfield, Mass., with his 94 Dakota in Street over Brian Mullaney, Morristown, N.J., and James Farmer ran down Vincent Harris, in a battle of Maryland residents. James, Denton, Md., went 8.880 seconds at 124.32 mph on his 08 Suzuki against Harris, Baltimore.
